Pacific Beach Surf School has developed a curriculum specifically for CISL. It is our goal to make learning English fun and exciting by adding an extra special component, surfing!
Visual aids are written in English to aid your student’s learning both visually and verbally. We arrange students into groups of five so each student has an opportunity to ask questions and receive individual attention.
Throughout the week students’ surfing and ocean knowledge develop as they follow our 5 step curriculum. Surf School Instructional Sessions start with daily lectures teaching the secrets of surfing. Each day, students receive a one hour Instructional Session from our certified instructors. Instruction starts on the sand with a brief lecture to ensure success and safety in the water. Students first learn the basics, such as surf safety, environmental awareness, waves and currents, and progress to learn about surf etiquette, history, surfboard construction, environmental studies as well as swell dynamics and forecasting. Now it’s time to surf! Each group will be supervised and critiqued in the water by a certified instructor for the duration of the hour. After the Instructional Session students have 2 hours to practice what they have learned.
All Surf School Sessions include the surfboard, wetsuit rental (short and/or long wetsuits are available) and a rashguard (all rashguards must be returned at the end of each session).
Pacific Beach Surf School dressing rooms and cubbies for students to keep their things safe. Additionally, they have a fresh water shower on the beach for students to rinse off after the lesson. Students should bring sunscreen and a towel. We recommend students wear tight fitting garments under the suits. Wetsuits will not fit properly over baggy clothing. Women may need a hair tie. On hot days students should bring sandals to walk to the beach because the sand and pavement can get very hot. If a student needs any of these things they can be purchased at our surf shop.
