Converse International School of Languages has been teaching foreign languages in San Diego since 1972. Over the years we have developed a direct communication-based approach to teaching languages that ensures quick and effective language learning by stimulating the mind to start thinking in the target language right from the beginning. Classes are delivered at our downtown San Diego school or offsite.
You can study Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Swahili, English as a Second Language, as well as other languages, and develop your communciation skills in the new language through private, semi-private or small-group classes in San Diego, California.
Our language instructors are experienced, trained, and motivated native speakers, who conduct lessons exclusively in the target language. Lessons are enhanced by the use of various audio and visual materials. You can study and learn most languages through our communication-based program, which allows you to develop your communication skills in the shortest time possible.
We offer private and semi-private (2-3 students) classes. We can also set up a program for small Charter Groups (4-8 students) for companies and organizations. All our courses can be custom-tailored to meet your specific language needs.
CISL also provides on-site instruction for corporate groups and organizations. These courses are carefully designed to cover the language skills appropriate to specific professions or work environments. Our dedicated staff prides itself on its unique ability to provide the same level of detailed attention and commitment to the individual student as it does to the largest corporate project.

Historic Capabilities Statement
The Foreign Language Department of Converse International School of Languages has been offering language lessons in Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, Farsi, Indonesian, Thai and Tagalog since 1972.Over the last thirty-eight years, Converse has offered classes to executives at Sony, NBC, Hewlett Packard, Merrill Lynch, Deloitte, and has also instructed members of the San Diego Police Department, City of San Diego employees, the San Ysidro Public School District, John Burnham Realty, and American Airlines. CISL has instructed the mayor of National City in Tagalog, and has also conducted classes for members of the CIA and agents in the FBI and the Department of Defense.
In 2006, the Foreign Language Department worked alongside Dr. Francis Njubi, PhD of San Diego State University and staff from the Association for African Alliance to offer Swahili classes for students at Point Loma Nazarene University.
Since 2009 the Foreign Language Department has been accredited by the Commission for English Language Accreditation, which is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. The same year, the Foreign Language Department completed (and implemented) the comprehensive Beginner through Advanced curriculum project for all major languages taught at CISL.
In 2010 the Department facilitated German translators for the United States Olympic Committee, where they assisted German doctors in conducting testing on Olympic hopefuls. Early in the same year, the Foreign Language Department added Serbo-/Croatian to their list of languages, and developed a comprehensive Serbian/Croatian curriculum for private and group courses.
The CISL Foreign Language Department faculty members have a wide range of qualifications. Many hold PhDs in their respective languages and several are instructors at the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University. All faculty members are native speakers and have years of experience teaching their native language.
